Hopefully this letter will inspire someone to never quit on
GOD, no matter how bleak the situation may seem, just hold on a SHIFT is
coming. In the month of November
our pastor preached a series on SHIFT happens. This sermon seemed to resonate
in my spirit after the first Sunday it was preached because pastor spoke about
the word provision. He stated that
God always gives provision before we
can see the vision. Now let us try
and grasp the meaning behind this word. Most of us never really get to see our
vision come to past because we are stuck in a gear that has nothing to do with
us moving forward in our lives. Now it’s ironic that a month later my daughter
(Shineka Karim) had started the same series about SHIFT.
Let me just pull up my brakes a moment to give you guys the
full mesmerizing picture of how we have gotten to this particular point.
Exactly 2 years ago, I was released from my job of 12 years. My unemployment
checks ran out and the financial strain of running our family was placed
squarely on my wife’s shoulders. As a man I felt terrible for I was unable to
stand upright as the bread winner that I was for so many years. There were days
when I did not know where our next meal would come from. We had exhausted every
resource that could be possibly done before asking the church family for
assistance with any bills.
Praying daily for a breakthrough
and sending out resumes until it all was becoming a blur. Now, things had
gotten extremely difficult for us when my car broke down and then our vehicle
was repossessed. I did not know how to console my wife any scripture, all I
would say is that we must not quit. We have never stopped serving God’s people
here at Destiny World Church and those outside the walls of this very church.
Pastor Purvis preached a sermon that really opened my eyes to what I have tried
to instill in my family, from the oldest down to the youngest. You have to love
and treat people as best you can because we never know who or whom we may need
to assist us within this lifetime.
To make a long story short, after being on the prayer line
during the Bara Prayer Movement Shift Series, we received a major shift in our
lives. The Sunday after the Shift
series ended, we received a blessing from our Destiny World Church Family. Our
Worship & Arts Ministry blessed our kids with $100+ each for Christmas. The
ultimate was when we pulled into our driveway and saw our car that had been
broken down for almost 2 years sitting in the driveway with a red ribbon on it.
The very car that I walked around and prayed over for 365 days straight, by touching
it and pleading with God that you know my heart and the needs of our family. My
heart was so heavy that all I could say was LOOK AT GOD!!! God didn't stop there because the next Sunday we received an outpouring of love from our church family. This was monumental because the job that I have doesn't have holiday pay so while I was thinking that I would spend the holidays without pay, God stepped in and provided a ram in the bush through church members that we had never even met!!! SHIFT happens, trust
God and see.
Peace and Blessings,
