Statement of Faith

Bara Prayer Movement Statement of Faith

We believe that there is one living and true God, who eternally exists in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and glory; that He has revealed Himself to be perfect in love, holiness and righteousness; that He created all, upholds all, and governs all.

We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.  He died upon the cross, the Just for the unjust, as a substitionary sacrifice, and all who believe in Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.  He arose from the dead according to the Scriptures.  He is now at the right hand of Majesty on high as our great High Priest.  He will come again to establish His Kingdom, righteousness and peace.

We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are given by divine inspiration and are the written Word of God, the final authority for the lives of believers in every culture and age, and the infallible rule of faith and practice; they are to be interpreted according to their context and purpose and in reverent obedience to the living Word, who speaks through them in the power of the Holy Spirit; the primary purpose of the Scriptures is to lead to faith in Jesus and salvation in His name.

We believe that the Holy Spirit is a divine person, sent to indwell, guide, teach, empower the believer, and convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment.

We believe that salvation has been provided through Jesus Christ for all men; and those who repent and believe in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become the children of God.

We believe God created mankind in His image and likeness (having rational, moral, relational, and spiritual capacities) to fellowship with Him and give Him glory.  Human beings are therefore the crown of God’s creation (possessing inherent dignity and moral worth), and this distinct in kind from all other life on earth.  Adam and Eve, the first human beings, chose to rebel against God and go their own way.  As a result, all of mankind became separated from God, the image of God in man distorted, and the sinful nature passed on to all their progeny.  Because of original sin, the only remedy for mankind’s predicament is redemption through faith in Jesus Christ.

We believe that the believer possesses great authority through Christ over the powers of spiritual darkness led by Satan, the ruler of this world; I believe we actively exercise this authority as we pray, do spiritual warfare, walk by faith, exercise spiritual gifts, and progress to spiritual maturity in Christ.

We believe that the Church consists of all those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, are redeemed through His blood, and are born again of the Holy Spirit. Christ is the Head of the Body, the Church, which has been commissioned by Him to go into the entire world as a witness, preaching the gospel to all nations. The local church is a body of believers in Christ who are joined together for the worship of God, for edification through the Word of God, for prayer, fellowship, the proclamation of the gospel, and observance of the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

We believe that there shall be a bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust; for the former, a resurrection unto life; for the latter, a resurrection unto judgment.

We believe the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ is imminent and will be personal and visible.  This is the believer’s blessed hope and is a vital truth, which is an incentive to holy living and faithful service.
